Web Design Questions

  • Thats a tough question to answer! It varies so much per project , but i would say typically a website can range anywhere from one thousand, to ten thousand! As for byEM, I’m a little more budget-friendly ;). You will find all of my packages and pricing detailed on my web design page, but in short - my sites are $800, $1000, $1200+, and anywhere in between.

  • I will send out an invoice with a total proposed amount at the beginning of the project. A 50% deposit will be due before we start. Once the project has been completed, I will calculate the total remaining balance (which is subject to the clients decisions on adding or removing extra elements from the site) and send an invoice for that amount. Both the initial 50% and the last 50% will be due within 10 days of the invoice being sent.

I accept payment via PayPal, check, credit card (with a processing fee), or cash.

  • That gray Squarespace “cube” is actually called a Favicon! And it’s what people see in the left corner of their open tab or on Google (you can see mine is is little white circle with my byEM logo). It is really easy to change this on your Squarespace site. Of course, you can always contact me to get me to do it quickly for you, otherwise - you go to Home, Design, Browser Icon, and upload it!

  • There are many different ways to add videos to Squarespace but, I don’t blame you, they can be tricky. There are options to add an image and actually use a short GIF as your video, you can upload a video link so that it is the same for both mobile and desktop viewing, or you can directly add videos to your page and add stationary pictures for mobile. A lot of different options, and I would be happy to help you with any of them! Just contact me regarding your site!

  • SEO, short for Search Engine Optimization, is basically the process of improving the back-end descriptions of your website and it’s pages to increase the traffic to your site. These descriptions are what show up on search engines, like google, and they help your site show up on people computers when they look up the keywords you used in those descriptions. For example, if you were really good at improving your SEO and had all of the synonyms for your service written in the back end of your site, then even if someone looked up one of those key words, your site would still pop up.

Corporate Marketing Questions

  • Graphic design/corporate marketing is all priced at a flat rate (detailed on my graphic design page). Full payment will be due at the beginning of the project. If for some reason the client cannot follow through with the project, 80% will be refunded back due to time/labor already spent on the project.
Each design includes 3 reworks or redesigns. After that, design is at a rate of $50/hr.

  • Right here! I make logos, flyers, articles for newspapers, business cards, presentations, mailers, and almost anything you can think of. I am also able to do something as simple as changing a format or color of a logo to what you need. Designs byEM also offers printing for an extra charge, printing fees will usually vary per project, but all you need to do is ask!

  • If you have a new iPhone, pictures taken through the Camera are in a format called “HEIC”. Unfortunately, I have no idea why, HEIC files can not be uploaded to Squarespace sites, Canva, and MANY other websites or portals. No need to fear, these can be changed to a different format easily. If you have a Mac (I believe the instructions will still be fairly similar for any desktop but I am a Mac user), upload your HEIC file to the desktop. Once it’s uploaded, double or right click to hit “export”, then you should have the option to change it to a JPG or PNG file. Again, this is always something I am happy to do for you, just shoot me an email!

  • INCREDIBLY! You might think not because so much of the world revolves around the internet now, but they are the best way to give someone a first impression of your business. Not only that, but they are a super easy way to market yourself on the fly. Imagine yourself just meeting someone and having a conversation with them and, somehow, what you do comes up! And then INCREDIBLY you have a small, convenient piece of paper with your name, branding, and all of your contact info. People now are actually taking advantage of the internet and integrating it into their business cards. One great tip is to put your QR code to your website or FB on your business card!

Extra/Random Questions

  • Usually I find myself cooking with a nice buttery Chardonnay, especially for white sauces or for fish/shrimp. I have also, in the past, used Merlot for a red wine sauce to be used with steak bites, some vegetables, or more. • Oh boy, we’ve all been there. Maybe the cap fell into the soup, or you saw “Tbsp” not “Tsp”. Never fear, Emma is here. All you need to do is either 1). Add cream/milk or water (whichever makes sense in the recipe) to dilute the salt 2). Add lemon juice or another acid to balance the salt flavor or 3). Remember that a little goes a long way, you can always add more but it is REALLY hard to “get rid of” salt.

  • Very similar to salt, usually you need to balance or dilute the spice. However, the absolute best way to do so with spice is through dairy. Sour cream, heavy cream, cheese, milk, etc. You can also add a sweetener, but sometimes this messes with the flavor of the recipe itself. Worst case, you can always add a bland starch or carb on side. Having bread or potatoes next to a spicy dish allows the person eating to take bites of something bland to cool off their mouth. And if their mouth still catches on fire, WATER IS THE WORST THING. Most of the time, it makes the mouth feel even hotter or make you feel like you need even more water.
